We had the first meeting for the year. I want to thank all those who braved the bad weather and all who helped with preparations and who contributed to the get together we had after the meeting. We had many open and democratic discussions on the matters that came before the membership. That is what is supposed to happen when you allow democracy to take place, thank you all for your contribution. Winter is almost over. I think we had enough snow for a lifetime. Let us all hope for better days and better things. A lot of things are happening that should be mentioned. The Ginger Blossom restaurant will be open for business by the time you get this letter. The Family Dollar store will be open. And if you drive on Parker Street, you will notice that the sign attached to the trailer in front of the three houses on Frank Street has been removed. The trailer will be moved out as soon as the weather permits. It took a little bit of persuasion but it is done. The next board meeting will be held at the Children's Study Home at 91 Old Acre Rd. on March 5th at 6:30 pm. The regular monthly meeting will be held at the Church in the Acres on March 18 at 7pm. The guest speakers are representatives of CHIPS, Child Identification Program. Come and hear what you can do to protect your children. Hope to see you there. |
We
want to wish our friend Paul Caron and his family good luck with his new
endeavor and remind Paul that it is never too late to reconsider running
for mayor.
We want to congratulate our Treasurer Ann Hadank and her
family on the arrival of a healthy grandchild, Richard Frank Martin born
during the blizzard on February 17.
Congratulations to the Rev. Mr. Joseph M. Garde for receiving the Holy Name Man of the Year Medallion Circle Award, at a reception for the occasion. AARP meeting will be held on March 6 at Goodlife Center 1600 West Columbus Avenue in Springfield, at one pm with a social hour. The BLUE RIBBON SINGERS will entertain us. The public is invited. The snow storm was an eye opener to those of us who live on Parker St. Our Mail Boxes (some) were damaged by the plows and some of us had to climb over snow banks to get to them. That is ok with me because the City did a reasonably good job of clearing the streets. Again I would like to talk about driving with your headlights on. With the snow piled high the only hope of being seen by cross traffic is with your lights on. Please do so and inform all of your friends and family to do the same. Remember 'lights on low beam' every time you drive day or night. The only time you use high beams is when you are in open areas and no frequent approaching traffic occurs. Police departments across the country continually report that multi-car crashes are due to 'tailgating'. The interval or space between cars should be measured in time that it takes to travel the distance from your front bumper to the car in front of you. For 55 mph or less it should be 2 seconds. Over 55 mph 4 seconds. And of course night and bad weather is cause for a further increase space between each auto. Please note that we have a new mailing address: Sixteen Acres
