FROM THE PRESIDENT

Well here we go again. The New Year has been very rough considering the cold weather that we have had to endure. Sometimes I ask myself what am I doing here? Better days are just around the corner. I do hope that we are ready to begin the work that waits for us. Last year was busy and the coming year seems to be the same.

I hope the members of the board have had time to spend with their families, and that we are willing and able to do the work that waits for us. We have a good and dedicated board, and I am confident that the work will get done.

Everything is changing so fast around our community and our lives that we hardly have time to keep up with it. This is an election year, and we can already hear the politicians making promises, but I know at the end we will make the right decision, to preserve and protect our rights.

MEETINGS

The board meeting was held on February 4. The regular Monthly meeting will be held on February 17th at the Church In The Acres at 7:00 pm. Our guest speaker will be Russell Denver, Executive Director of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce.

RETIREMENT

Our member and community police officer for many years, Peter Fett, decided to retire. As of January he is enjoying the fruits of his hard work and commitment to the residents of the Sixteen Acres. Everyone has enjoyed working with Peter and the community police. He has always available to help with problems. The members and officers of the Sixteen Acres Civic Association, wish Peter good luck, and thank him for a job well done.

COMMUNITY MERCHANTS

Thank you to all the businesses in the Sixteen Acres community for their continued support to the Sixteen Acres Civic Association, and for providing us with their assistance whenever we call on them. These businesses are run buy hard working decent people who provide a great service to our community.

CONGRATULATIONS

The Association is proud to acknowledge that two of its members have joined the new Mayor to serve the city. Carol Lewis-Caulton who will join five other new members on the Springfield Police Commission and Rudolph Ruggeri has been appointed to the Springfield Library Commission joining Helen Boyle. Congratulations and continued success with your positions.

CONDOLENCES

The Sixteen Acres Civic Association extends its deepest sympathy to Vice-President Richard Greenberg and his wife Gail Supanich-Greenberg. Richard lost his sister Linda Stone-Davidoff. Gail lost her beloved father John Supanich. Our prayers and thought go out to them and their families.

Board member Jean Masse wishes to thank all those who attended her husband Roland's wake. She also wants to let everyone know that all the sympathy cards, mass cards and all the donations to the Open Pantry in Roland's memory helped her through this difficult time. She never realized she had so many wonderful and thoughtful friends.

In its continued support of the Open Pantry, we are asking our members to please be generous with these donations of food. There are more people than ever that are in need of help with food. So bring your donations of non perishable food to our next Association General Meeting on the 17th of February, 2004.
