FROM
THE PRESIDENT
The fiscal
year is almost over and during the year a lot of things have been accomplished
with the support of the board and the officers. As we enter into the new year
I want to thank those who participated at the meeting for their contribution
and cooperation in keeping the meetings orderly so that everyone has the opportunity
to freely participate in the decisions made.
The speakers that came before the membership were excellent, and I have received many compliments about it, and the way the meetings are being run, as I said together we could make a big difference. A lot more needs to be done to make us the best civic association in the city. I am counting on your continued support. MONTHLY MEETING The next monthly meeting, which is the annual meeting, will be held on June 17th, 7:00PM at the Church Of The Acres. Senator Brian Lees has tentatively agreed to speak for a short time provided that he is not tied up with Legislative work on the State Budget. I hope to see you there since this is the most important meeting of the year and the last meeting until the September meeting. BOARD MEETING The next board meeting will be held on June 4th at the Children's Study Home 91 Old Acre Road at 6:30 PM PICNIC The date for the Picnic has been decided as the 16th of August at Camp Wilder. A committee will be appointed at the June meeting. The person or persons appointed to run the picnic will then ask for volunteers to help with preparations and work at the picnic.. |
NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS In accordance with our bylaws nominations and elections will be held at the annual meeting in June, this was announced at the May meeting. However, this will serve as an official notice to all the members of the association. The President, Vice President Assistant Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer plus nine board members will be nominated and elected at this meeting. Nominations from the floor will be accepted in accordance with the bylaws. You must be present to be nominated and elected at this meeting. PROPOSED CHANGE A proposed change has been made on the bylaws and was brought up at the last meeting in May to be acted upon at the June meeting. The change being proposed is it changes the term in office from one year to two years for all officers and board members. If the members approve this change at the June meeting then all officers and board members elected in June will hold office for two years instead of one year. CONGRATULATIONS The Association wishes to thank members who have been donating food for the Open Pantry. The need is greater than ever. Now that school is going to be out, there will be more children who will not be getting their frre meals at school. Please make an effort to bring non-perishable food to the June meeting. There is a great need for protein food such as peanut butter, tuna fish or canned meat. WELCOME NEW MEMBERS Victor and Cathy Sanchez, Jr., |

From The Shore Of Mill Pond
About the same time the Swans and the Canada Geese returned to the pond. They soon learned that the bridge was gone and made use of the waterway that was now open to them. I do believe the Goose population is not quite as large as in the past. They are however now parading the young hatchlings up and down the pond. The Swans have gone into seclusion, as we do not see them at all. We believe they are nesting and that they will soon be back with their young. Last year they had about 10 hatchlings but over the rest of the summer due to aggressive turtles and other mishaps only one may have survived.
We had a chuckle over the East Longmeadow fiasco with a Swan that was transplanted to help keep the Geese away. The Geese and Swans on this Pond certainly do co-habitat. That is not to say they are in any way close friends.
Our neighbor has made several bat houses and they have been up for long enough time to attract the bats. The Bats do roost in these shelters although it is difficult to see them come and go. A pair of Chickadee moved into the area and they spotted their reflections in the back windows. The male tried to fight his image as he was thought to be his competition. Eileen placed a small carving of a Pelican outside the window and the male Chickadee has stayed away since.
