From the President

With all that has been happening this has been a so-so summer. The rain, the heat, the black out and everything else has made it difficult to cope.
September will start a new year for the organization with much to be done. The summer has been busy with many meetings. There has also been program planning and scheduling of speakers for the coming year. Hopefully after well-deserved vacations everyone will be ready to take on the issues that will come before us. Together we are working as a team to keep our community safe and clean. To that end we must be alert of anything that does not look right. Talk to the police if necessary to provide safety and security in our streets and homes.
This year again we have elected a very responsible and dedicated group of officers and board members. They will do their best to ensure that the job gets done.
I am looking forward to working with them, so we can do the job we were elected to do.

MEETINGS

The executive board meeting was held on September 3rd at 6:30pm at the Children's Study Home located at 91 Old Acre Rd.
The regular monthly meeting has been changed to September 23rd due to the primaries. The time is 7:00 pm at the Church In The Acres. The guest speaker is Hamden County District Attorney William Bennett.
The association welcomes new members:
Timothy Cheeks; John Salema, owner of Dunkin Donuts; David and Barbara Rock; Kathy Kroll; Victor and Kathy Sanchez, Jr.; James and Sharon Beaudry

* HOPE TO SEE YOU IN SEPTEMBER *

PICNIC

Our picnic was again a great success thanks to the work of the committee and to your cooperation and participation. Congratulations and thanks go to the committee; Jean Masse, Willis Schoof and Willie Johnson our famous cook. Everyone had a good time and we had a good selection of food and deserts and lots of good company, which goes to show that when you have the right people running an affair the job gets done. Again thanks to the Committee and those who participated and helped by donating a dish and helping make this a great event.

The picnic committee wants to thank all those who volunteered their time at the picnic. There was cleaning to do and picnic tables that had to be moved around. The food that was donated was exceptional. There was such a selection from meatballs, baked beans and numerous kinds of pasta and potato salads. The dessert table was something to behold. You had your choice of all kinds of sweets. The members who attended really outdid themselves this year. Our master chef, Willie Johnson, did a great job cooking the burgers and hot dogs. The rains came, but it did not dampen the spirits of anyone. We all just kept on having a good time. We want to thank Paul Currier, owner of Alibi's, for his generous donation of all the soda. We are already looking forward to next year and hope that more members can make it for a day of meeting old friends and enjoying the great food!!!

Jean, Willis and Willie, The Picnic Committee

SYMPATHY

The association extends its deepest sympathy to board member Edmund Mack on the passing of his beloved wife Marjorie L. Mack. There were no visiting hours, but if you would like, cards can be sent to Ed at 156 Woodland Road, Spfld., 01129-2123. In lieu of flowers contributions in her name may be directed to Reach for the Stars, 63 Birchwood Lane, Lenox, MA 01240, which will benefit orphaned children.
