SPRING  BEGINS
                

 

MARCH MEETING

   Eastfield Mall Manager, Arlene Putnam, will be the

guest speaker at the 16 Acres Civic Association monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 20th at 7:p.m. at the Church In the Acres on Wilbraham Road.

    Ms. Putnam will discuss a buffer zone, needed space, plantings and other issues involving the Mall.

   The 16 Acres Civic Association is asking those who attend to please bring a donation of a non-perishable food item.

JIMMY’S SPORTS

BAR TRANSFER

 Jimmy’s Sports Bar, located next to Big Y on Wilbraham Rd, will now be known as Alibi’s.  The license transfer to the new owner/manager, Paul Currier, was approved by the Liquor Commission last month and endorsed by the Sixteen Acres Civic Association.

PRESCRIPTION HELP FOR SENIORS

  A new prescription drug plan, Prescription Advantage Plan, will begin on April 1st for those 65 or older.  Open enrollment to apply for coverage is in February and March. Your premiums are based on your monthly income or if you fall at or below the federal poverty level, the state will subsidize the premiums.

      A workshop will be held at the Church of the Acres on Wilbraham Rd. on Monday, March 19th and 21st at 10:00 am.

LIBRARY IN YOUR MAILBOX

  The Springfield Library has begun a free “books by mail” program for people 60 and over and the disabled.

     The library will provide mailing pouches with postage paid to participants of this program.

BOARD MEMBER ELECTED

  At the February meeting, Karen Powell was elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the Sixteen Acres Civic Association.

 

EARTH DAY

* Earth Day Cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, April 28, 2001 from 8:30 am – 3:00 pm.

  Parks, conservation areas and sections of the Mill River Water-shed will be cleaned of trash.

    We will meet in the parking lot of the cinema complex on the corner of Breckwood Blvd. and Wilbraham Road.

    To volunteer, call the Earth Day hotline at 263-6800 ext. 432.

 

   CELL TOWER UPDATE

     The City Council voted unanimously at the Feb. 12th meeting to implement a six-month moratorium on Cell Towers until the city ordinance is revised. The matter must now go to the Planning Board and Planning Department.

      Two meetings are planned for Thursday, March 15th. The first meeting will be held at Old First Church in Longmeadow at 5:00 and will be followed by a meeting at Goodwill on Parker St. at 6:00.

      If you can’t attend both meetings, please try to make the

meeting at Goodwill at 6:00.
