Election time is here!

     The Sixteen Acres Civic Association’s annual elections for the 2001- 2002 calendar year will be held on Tuesday, June 19th at 7:00 pm at the Church In the Acres on Wilbraham Road.
      As a member, you can have a voice by casting your vote for the people you believe best will represent you as a member of this Civic Association. Please make every effort to attend because every vote counts.  
A non-perishable food item for the Open
Pantry would be appreciated. 


            THE NOMINEES

President  -  Jean Masse has been a member of the 16 Acres Civic Association for 16 years, on the board for 14 years, has worked on and/or chaired various committees and is currently serving as president. Jean is on the Beat Management team, the Board of the Open Pantry and a delegate to the state Democratic convention. Jean would like a senior center, more activities for our youth, proper land use in addition to maintaining existing zoning and public safety.

Vice President – Clodo Concepcion has been a member of the Civic Association for 4 years and on the Board of Directors for 3 years. Clodo is president of the


Springfield Chapter of the AARP and was president of his labor union, the IUE. Clodo is also on the Mass Senior Action Committee, where they address issues of concern to the senior citizens.

 

Vice President -  Richard Greenberg, as current vice-president, is honor-ed to be nominated and if elected will continue to support the president in the exercise of her duties. He believes the organization should be vigilant in opposing expansion of the commercial areas at 16 Acres Center and Boston Road, as well as active in getting better commercial sign control and less visible utilities.  Richard also believes we need to increase our membership and get more of the community involved in association activities.

 

Asst. Vice President  -  Helen C. Boyle has been a member of the civic association for over 10 years and has served on the Board and as Assistant Vice-President for 3 of those years. Helen was instru-mental in the 16 acres library project. Helen volunteers at the schools and the library and is very active in the St Catherine of Siena Parish. One of Helen’s goals is to have a senior center in 16 Acres.

 

Secretary – Ruth Moorehouse has been a member of the association for three years. Ruth has been the association’s secretary for the past year and would like to continue serving as secretary. Ruth’s interests are her family, her city and education.


Treasurer
– Karen Powell is going on her third year as a member of the civic association and is a current Board member. She has been active in the community and in the association. Karen has been putting the newsletter together, is on a number of the committees and serves as the representative of the Association at various meetings.

           
Board of Directors

Walley Brown
:  Walley Brown served on active duty with the U.S. Army before beginning his job at Mass Mutual in Virginia. He moved to the Mass Mutual home office in Springfield 10 years ago where he worked as a regional investment sales consultant for over seven years. He then took a position with A.G. Edwards as a financial con-sultant until his retirement. Walley serves as Toastmaster Interna-tional’s Division Governor of Toastmasters.

Bill Champagne: Bill Champagne is 35 years old and married with two young sons. He has been employed at the Hampden County House of Corrections as a Correctional Caseworker/Officer for 6 yrs. Bill served in the Military for 17yrs, 7yrs in the Active Duty Air Force and 10yrs with the Air National Guard. Bill holds an Associates in Science Degree in the field of Criminal Justice and is working on his Bachelors Degree. Bill would like to represent the citizens of Sixteen Acres as well as to make sure the interest of our children are not forgotten.

Peter Fett
: Peter is currently on the Board of Directors and has been a member of the association for approximately four years. As one of the Community Police Officers in the Sixteen Acres area, Peter stays very active in the community.  Peter is currently serving as a member of the Bylaws committee as well as working on other Civic Association issues.

Jim Gregory : Jim is an attorney in general practice, including real estate, family law, probate of estates and criminal defense. He has been a civic assoc. member since 1985 and has served as secretary, treasurer and board member.  Jim is interested in zoning and land use issues. Jim was trial counsel on the lawsuit filed by the civic association in the 16 Acres tower case and was co-counsel on the appeal of this case.  He is married to Patricia and they have one son, Robert.

 

Ann Hadank : A member of the Civic Assoc. since 1986, Ann has served as Vice-President and been on the Board of Directors for many years. Ann worked on various committees from Broska farm to beautification.

 


Ann is a special education teacher at Duggan Middle School and is half way to her masters degree. She is awaiting the birth of a grandchild in September.

 

Denise Kelcey : Denise Kelcey  has been a member of the Association for 14 years, served on the Board of Directors for 12 and this past year she served as the treasurer. Denise has been on various committees throughout the years and would be honored to serve as a board member for the upcoming year 2001-2002 if elected.

 

Ed Mack :  Ed Mack has lived in 16 Acres for 40 years, taking an active role in the community. Ed retired from Kiley Middle school after being an administrator for 23 years and he and spent 10 years as a high school counselor at Duggan evening school. Ed also served as director of the 16 Acres YMCA, the 16 Acres anti-drug community, and was one of the original people to start the library.  Ed Mack continues to be a concerned citizen about our community. 

 

 


Doris Robinson
: Doris Robinson has been a resident of 16 Acres for the past 10 years. Doris teaches 4th grade in the Springfield Public School System. She has been active in the Girl Scouts, the Anti-apartheid movement, the Board of the Spfld. Girls Club, SEA’s PAC, No MCAS committee, the Negotiation com-mittee and the School Centered Decision-Making Team. Doris believes in actions to resolve matters rather than pro-longed discussions, which is what she sees as how the association operates. She would appreciate your vote and will work hard if elected.

Cameron Walker : Cameron Walker was born and raised in Chester, VT. He attended AIC and received his BSN in 1985, spent four years in the US Air Force as an officer, and moved back to Springfield in 1990. Cameron is married with two children, a daughter 8 and a son 4, and has lived in the 16 Acres area for the last five years. He is very active in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, where he sings in the choir, he is active in outdoor sporting activities and is the Pack Committee Chairman for cub scout pack 303 in 16 Acres. Cameron is a concerned citizen for both Spring-field and 16 Acres.
