Katherine Pederson of the Springfield Water and
Sewer Commission will speak at our November 20th meeting. The topic will
be improving the quality of water in our lakes and rivers. Please remember

CONGRATULATIONS Rudy Ruggeri’s daughter, Diane Surprenant, and grandson, Andrew, are to be congratulated for making handmade heart shaped pins decorated in patriotic colors that were sold to benefit survivors of the WTC
disaster. Over $600.00 was
raised from the sale of the pins. Congratulations to Pioneer Valley Montessori
School at 1524 Parker Street for receiving a 10 year reaccredidation from
the Association of Independent Schools in New England. The school allows us to print our
newsletter on their equipment and they also supply the paper. Gail Supanich, director of the school, was
recently nominated and elected as a board member of the Open Pantry
Community Services, Inc. Gail
is the wife of Richard Greenberg, vice president, of the association. A proclamation naming October 22, 2001 as “Fun
Time Nursery School Day” was presented to owner Judy Fluery. She has been educating young minds
for 25 yeas. Judy is a past
secretary of the association. Her business is located in the Allen Street

HOLIDAY SOCIAL
The 16 Acres Civic Association and the Outer
Belt Civic Association are having a combined Holiday Social to be held on
Saturday December 8th from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The event will be at the Greenleaf
Community Center, next to the library on Parker Street. There will be further details in
the December newsletter.

Our mayoral candidates’ forum, held
Oct.16th at Kiley Middle School, was a huge success. Over 400 were in attendance to
hear Mayor Michael J. Albano and State Representative Paul E. Caron answer
questions submitted by members of the audience and the two panelists, Ray
Herchel from WGGB Channel 40 and Steve O’Neil, owner and editor of the
Springfield Journal. Senator
Brian Lees moderated. Amanda,
daughter of Ruth Moorhouse, our Secretary, sang a beautiful rendition of
our national anthem. Tony
Bonito who is owner of The Music Men store on Boston Road donated
