From The President
The nice days of summer are nearly gone and winter is approaching. Good things do not last forever. DO not forget your "Flu" shot. I have noticed that when we are having a meeting a few of us seem to forget what we are there for. Most times we have a guest speaker who agrees to speak to us and bring us up to date on many of the issues that concern the community and us. However many of us seem to forget that when someone is speaking we should show him or her some courtesy by not having some chit chats when the person is trying to convey the message to us. This also happens when a member has the floor; many times others having a different meeting at the same time interrupt him. I would like to ask those in attendance to have a little bit of respect for others. After all we can only listen to one person at a time. Your cooperation is appreciated and welcome. Board Meeting
The November board meeting will take place at the Children's Study Home at 6:30 pm on November 6, 2002. Board member attendance is required. When you do not attend scheduled meetings you are allowing others to make the decisions for you. |
Christmas Party
The Entertainment Committee met this week to finalize the plans for the party. We had a very productive meeting, exchanging a lot of ideas. It was agreed by unanimous consent to have the party after a short meeting in December. For more information please contact: Jean Masse at 782 0339 or
Everybody's cooperation is needed to have a successful party. HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE! "Champions Of Character"
Congratulations to Amanda & Ellen Moorhouse, daughters of Ruth Moorhouse. The Springfield Union News featured them as "Champions Of Character". After 9/11 they wanted to do something to help so they produced 'flyers' and posted them in the neighborhood asking for donations of stuffed animals. They collected about 250 and with their parents on Thanksgiving Day they drove to NY and delivered them to a church. 'Good Job Girls' |
| Regular Monthly Meeting
The regular monthly membership meeting will be held at the Church
of the Acres, November 19th 7:00 pm.
Our guest speaker will be Brenda Garton, a well-known Channel 22 television personality. She is also the director of Adult Education at Western New England College. We want to thank Brenda in advance for taking time out of her very busy schedule to talk to us. It will be a very interesting evening. The public is invited so bring your friends and neighbors and we hope to see you at the meeting. Our Sympathy
The Association extends our deepest sympathy to the family of
Walter Greany. He served as a Board Member of the Association in years
past.

Also the Melha Shriners Clowns will be making balloon animals and face painting. Each child who attends the event will receive a toy donated by the Eastfield Mall Management. Office. Radio Station 93.1 will be broadcasting public service announcements to help get the message out. Students from WNEC will be volunteering to collect cash and food again this year. In addition members of our association are needed to help out. Please call Jean Masse at 413 782 0339 and let her know the time and hours you can serve. Or ask her when she needs you. PLEASE HELP.
Update on SSWAMP
August was our last sample month for testing the Mill Pond water
for many characteristics and/or contaminates. The Pond sometimes looks
like an icky mess. This is known as 'Algae Blooms' and is caused by 'excess
fertilizers' and 'decaying vegetation'.
1. Do not discard clippings and other vegetation on water shed land. This includes the back of your garage and the city property across the road. 2. Reduce the amount of fertilizers you apply or pay someone to apply. It is thought that most lawns would look just as good with fully 50% less commercial fertilizer. Contact your commercial fertilizer company and insist upon it. It will save you money and help clear the pond. On a good note, our pond is one of the lucky ponds in Springfield because it is running water (part of Mill River) and as such gets flushed by every rainstorm.
Thanks, Willis Schoof, 2nd VP |
