FEBRUARY MEETING

 

    Our meeting this month will be held on Tuesday, February 19th at 7:00 p.m. at the Church in the Acres. 

    Katherine Peterson, Community Director in the Sewer and Water Dept. will be our guest speaker along with Josh Schimmel, Principal Sanitary Engineer and Ryan Robicheau, Forrester.  They have planned a slide presentation showing the lowering of Lake Massasoit last year and the contaminated runoff from the  surrounding area.  Coffee will be served following the meeting.

 

HOLIDAY SOCIAL

 

   Our Holiday Social was enjoyed by all.  Members are already requesting that we repeat this event again next year.  The Sabis Gospel Choir and Amanda Moorhouse entertained us with a selection of Holiday music.  We would like to thank all who provided raffle prizes or refreshments for this event.  Santa really came to 16 Acres that night!!!.  The Committee did a fantastic job arranging this party and deserves a big THANK YOU.

    

ELECTION OF OFFICERS
 

   Our By-Laws require that a Nominations Committee be formed at the February meeting.  We will need three to five members to volunteer for this important Committee.  Please le us know if you can help.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

 

   

     

 

 

CONGRATULATIONS

 

    To Lisa Frye who was featured on the Springfield Newspapers Unlisted Page as Student of the Month.  Lisa is the granddaughter of Arne and Barbara Frye.

 

    To ex Sergeant Curtis McKenzie on his appointment to Chief of Police, Town of Monson.  He has worked closely with our group and was instrumental in halting the college parties that were being held in residential homes in 16 Acres.   

 

    To Clodo Conception.  His civic activities were highlighted in the Noted Neighbor column of the Springfield Newspapers.

 

    To Amanda Moorhouse who competed in the Barbizon Talent and Modeling Competion held in Los Angeles.  Amanda earned 1st place in the Commercial Print Photo and placed 4th in the Talent Showcase.    Amanda is the daughter of Ruth Moorhouse, Treasurer.

     

OPEN PANTRY

   
We are again requesting that everyone bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Open Pantry.  Requests for assistance have increased dramatically and the Pantry runs out of food almost on a daily basis.  If you would like to donate, but can’t attend the meeting, please call Jean Masse at 782-0339 to arrange for a pickup.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

   

   

 

    

 

 

COMMUNITY NEWS

 

    Kindergarten registration is scheduled for February 14th and 28th at the Goodwill Store in 16 Acres.  Hours are from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.  
 
Clodo Conception, member and President of AARP Chapter #1385 is extending an invitation to all who would like to attend the following meetings to be held at the Church in the Acres at 1 pm on:  March 7th, Atty. Patricia Donovan will speak on Elder Law”, April 4th Entertainment by the Banjo Band 7 Players.
The AARP is also conducting a raffle to benefit the Melha Shriners.  First prize is a 2003 Chevrolet Impala LS, 2nd & 3rd prizes will be cash.  Donations are $5.00.  The drawing will be held on Sunday, October 13th at Eastfield Mall.
 
Springfield Public Schools are requesting volunteers to help students at area Schools.  Brunton School, assist a 5th grader with Language Arts; Glickman School, help a 4th grader with subtraction and estimating, Book Chats, listen to 1st-3rd graders discuss books they have read; Talmade school, help a 3rd grader with addition and subtraction.  If you are interested, call 787-7015.
