Spring Cleanup of Sixteen Acres Center

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED ! !

April 13th, starting at 9:00 a.m

APRIL MEETING

Dr. Joseph P. Burke, Superintendent of Schools, will be the featured speaker at our meeting on Tuesday, April 16th at 7:00 pm in the Church in the Acres on Wilbraham Road.  An invitation was sent to all the schools in the Sixteen Acres area.  This is a very important meeting and will give those who attend an opportunity to ask questions that need some answers now that the city is facing such drastic cuts in funding from the State.  Please bring a non-perishable food item for the Open Pantry.

SPRING CLEANUP

The Association is holding it’s annual Spring Cleanup of Sixteen Acres Center.  It is being held on April 13th, starting at 9:00 a.m.  We are looking for volunteers to help with cleaning and putting down a new application of mulch.  Six students from the Criminal Justice Association at W.N.E.C. have offered their assistance.  Hope to see you there.  If you can help, please call Jean Masse at 782-0339.

ELECTIONS

The Nominating Committee has the names and phone numbers of all members.  They will be calling you to ask if you can volunteer your time to help the Association.  We need members to serve as Officers and on the Board of Directors.  Nominations will be at the May meeting, and elections will be held in June.

PRESERVATION AWARD

The Association received a beautiful plaque from the City of Springfield in appreciation of our continued support of the preservation of Springfield's open space.  The event was held March 20th at the late Emma Anderson's home at Camp Wilder.  State Secretary of Environmental Affairs, Robert Durand presented the City of Springfield with a $500,000 grant for use toward the purchase of Camp Wilder.  Also in attendance were Senator Brian Lees, Mayor Michael Albano and Park Superintendent Patrick Sullivan.
